RE: Employee Entrance and Building Security
Commissioner Dieter has been working on improving the level of security for both the public at-large as well as county and city employees who work daily in the County-City Building and is excited to share some of the improvements taking effect on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
The county has contracted with Trinity Security to provide both armed and unarmed security services to the County-City Building. The Sheriff will not be providing security services to the County-City Building. Also new on Tuesday will be an employee-only entrance.
The Employee Entrance will open beginning on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Only employees with a valid employee ID can enter through that door. The public will still enter through the west doors (off of LaFayette). Both visitors and employees will still have bags x-rayed and will be required to walk through a metal detector.
The employee entrance will be open from 7:00 am through 5:30 pm. If an employee needs to access the building outside these hours, the employee should continue to use the west entrance and contact maintenance as they do now.
During this transition, we will be working with employees to educate them on proper security measures. It is not intended for this to be an adversarial process. If you happen come to the wrong door, it won’t be a big deal. The security guards will just take that opportunity to educate the employee or member of the public on what to do next time.
If you have any further questions, or if your department holds public meetings in the County-City Building, please contact the Commissioner’s Office by email at sjccom@sjcindiana.com.
The Board of Commissioners appreciates your patience and corporation with these new security protocols.
