FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMARCH 14, 2018UPDATE ON ROAD CLOSURES DUE TO FLOODING
Chippewa Avenue from Linden Road/Gertrude Street to Keria Trail
Grant Road from Snowberry Road to Tulip Road
Pierce Road from West County Line to SR 4
Quinn Road from Place Trail to Walnut Road
Homeowners should report their damage directly to Emergency Management using this online form: http://sjcindiana.com/FormCenter/Emergency-Management-Agency-33/Flood-Damage-Assessment-82
Those without internet access can call Emergency Management at 574-235-9378.
We continue to ask for the public’s help in reporting flooded areas and flood damage by going to our website, www.sjcindiana.com and clicking on “Report a Concern”.
Please note: Any bridge or culvert that was overtopped requires a full inspection prior to re-opening. Even though water may be lower, the road will remain closed and barricades up until we clear the road for safe travel and any adjacent utility facilities have been inspected.
The county also recognizes that as the waters continue to recede, more potholes will appear. Residents can report potholes by using the “Report a Concern” feature on our website at www.sjcindiana.com. We have crews currently out fixing potholes as quickly as they can, and we ask that residents have patience as we work to repair the roads damaged by the many freeze-thaw cycles and the recent flooding.

Please Help Keep storm drains clean
When storm water drains are blocked, waters may rise rapidly and flood roadways. It is important that property owners keep drainage inlets near their property clean and clear of litter and debris to prevent blockages that can cause localized flooding.
Rules of the road for safe driving – Safety Tips provided from INDOT
Always turn on your vehicle's headlights when windshield wipers are needed and always use turn signals when turning or changing lanes - especially when weather reduces visibility.
Prevent hydroplaning on wet roads by:
Please travel cautiously through all areas especially if water is crossing the road as some areas are flowing at a high rate of speed. Do not try to drive through water ponding across a roadway as the depth of water may be too great to cross. Please Turn Around.
St. Joseph County has sand bags and supplies ready for use at several locations throughout the County:
Sandbag Locations at County Highway Garages are available during normal hours of operation 6am-3:30pm
SAND BAGS WILL BE AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS WHEN FLOODING IS FORECASTED. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT BAGS MAY REQUIRE SELF ASSEMBLY. PLEASE REMIND VIEWERS TO BRING THEIR OWN SHOVELS TO ASSEMBLE THEIR OWN SANDBAGS.
