Galup was appointed as Full Time Health Officer by the St. Joseph County Board of Health on October 19, 2015. Dr. Galup was born in Lima, Peru and received his medical degree in 1963. He then moved to the United States where he completed his residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and Evanston Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. In July of 1967 he joined the pathology staff of the South Bend Medical Foundation. He was called into service in the US Army Medical Corp in 1968; he served for 2 years, and returned to private practice in 1971.
In 1976, Dr. Galup became the Medical Director of the South Bend Medical Foundation; in 1981 he was named President and CEO, a position he held until 2007. Dr. Galup was also a founding member of the Michiana Health Information Network (MHIN). He retired from the South Bend Medical Foundation in 2014 and looks forward to serving the citizens of St. Joseph County as Health Officer.
Dr. Mark Fox
Fox was appointed as a Part-time Deputy Health Officer by the St. Joseph County Board of Health in 2018. Dr. Fox holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He is eager to make progress on “community health improvement initiatives".
Lead, infant mortality, immunizations and health education “are the four big categories", but he also wants to help establish what the strategic priorities are going forward for the Department of Health.
Dr. Fox will also continue to serve on the Board of Health.
